Lane Johnson is currently the Philadelphia Eagles player with the longest contract. He is not done yet, either. On Monday, the team announced that Johnson and the Eagles agreed on a one-year contract extension that lasts until 2027.
This extension is mostly about money. Johnson will earn $8 million over the next two years, plus an extra $30 million in guarantees, bringing his total earnings to $48 million for the next two seasons, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Out of that $48 million, Rapoport noted that $40 million is guaranteed.
Johnson has truly deserved this money. He has dealt with injuries and the challenges of playing tackle, proving himself as one of the best offensive linemen in Eagles history. A six-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, Johnson won his second Super Bowl in 2024 by protecting quarterback Jalen Hurts and creating openings for running back Saquon Barkley, as part of one of the top offensive lines in the NFL. He ended the 2024 season ranked seventh among all tackles for overall performance, according to PFF, and even as he nears his 35th birthday in early May, he has shown no signs of slowing down.
After center Jason Kelce retired following the 2023 season, Johnson stepped up as the veteran leader of the team. He helped new guard Mekhi Becton adjust to his role and fit into a unit that dominated opposing defenses all season, contributing to Barkley’s 2,000-yard rushing achievement.
When the lights were at their brightest, Johnson and the Eagles performed exceptionally well, racking up 345 yards of offense in a big win against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
Winning a Super Bowl is amazing, but getting another ring and then a paycheck a month and a half later makes it even better.
Johnson will reap the rewards of his hard work while he keeps playing on the right side of the line. His career will likely end in Philadelphia, and he is expected to be honored in Canton after he retires.
